Wait till the stillness

just before dawn

and waken to the

rising sun airbrushed

in indigo knowing

a brand-new day has

begun. The silence

inviting, you relish

the time all by yourself

inside your home.

Outside your window

a solitary wind ripples

the lake and the rhythm

of life stirs you in its

circle of peace.

Lean towards the light

stealing in your backyard,

touch its warmth

on the glass.

Capture the sweet

breath of heaven

before it slips past.





White Narcissus

In the mellowness

of maturity there is

a dulcet stillness

inside your home

and a circle of light

your little red lamp

makes in the evening

while you're alone.

Have you ever touched

a white narcissus or

seen its glow?

Gather a handful

when they are freshly

open, bring their joy

inside your room

in a small bowl

knowing hope will

renew itself every day

like your fountain

outside whispering

hello. Waken before

dawn and watch

orioles graze the light

of the rising sun.





In The Cool Night Of Spring

In the cool April darkness

a petal of light quietly

appears in the sky,

an arc of the moon

above your softly lit

home the motion

of leaves flickering

in the air, the gift

of spring brushing

the earth with its

love wakening

the green flowered

beauty of your garden.

Vibrantly breathe

in the crisp passion

of the night,

gently touch the soil

where crocuses bloom.

Watch them lean

towards you wrapped

in the starlight.

Know the scent

of bay leaf and pine,

let it stir you

like the memory

of a bright day

would do.
